Dashdoc out in the field! We went to meet one of our flagship clients in the Var region. Franck Le Moigne, head of Azurpal and Azurpal Transports, answered our questions about his use of the Dashdoc TMS. A closer look at a company established in the heart of its region, taking advantage of its versatile strengths, making it both a shipper and a carrier.

Introducing Azurpal, a bit of history

The beginnings

Initially positioning itself as THE recycler and seller of wooden pallets in the Var region, Azurpal is a company that has evolved greatly.

Azurpal was founded over 30 years ago, in 1991 to be exact. Franck Le Moigne likes to describe the company as multidisciplinary, specifically with three lines of business.

The initial business revolves around collecting, sorting, recycling, and reselling pallets. The second is transportation, which led to the creation of Azurpal Transports. The third is logistics: transporting and warehousing containers for clients with wineries in the region.

Azurpal or the mastery of the pallet product

One of the company's big promises: collection of used pallets within 72 hours, then immediate sorting and recycling.

The revalorization is at the heart of Azurpal's principles. It's an anti-waste initiative that, through reuse or recycling (often using waste), aims to produce reusable materials or energy. When you realize how important these challenges are in transport—considering decarbonization, CO2 calculation per transport or biofuels—Azurpal was right on target!

All pallets are treated according to the ISPM 15 standard for French products destined for export.

The evolution: moving from pallets to a true network!

In 2016, Azurpal moved to its new 7,000-square-meter facility in Cannet des Maures, a double strategic geographic position: in the very heart of the Var wine region and near the main highway hub of southern France. This setup made Azurpal's daily transport and logistics operations much easier.

A strong bond has been formed with local players, winery estates, some of which are very luxurious. Regular routes quickly emerged. The need to store and redistribute dry goods such as bottles, caps, pallets gradually grew and led the Azurpal team even further in their approach.

🚛

Today, in numbers, Azurpal represents:

  • 15 dedicated employees

  • 10 to 20 transport operations per day

  • About 2.5 million euros in annual revenue

  • 50,000 pallets collected and resold per month to clients

  • 11 active trucks and 8 semi-trailers

Azurpal's needs

In summer 2020, the need to manage its long-distance transports independently—since it was the most profitable solution—drove Franck Le Moigne to dive into transport. A carrier's license and a few months later, diversification became apparent in how these transports were managed: they now cover both regional and long-distance routes, even France-Spain journeys.

A new necessity quickly arose: having control over this entire transportation arm that is closely linked to pallet collection and recycling but that requires different management. Franck Le Moigne wants to be able to plan operations calmly, track and react instantly and ensure receipt of all transport documents through to invoicing. Digitization of documents is clearly a must.

💡

What kind of vehicles does Azurpal use?

As the transported products are mainly non-food industrial items, wood, packaging, construction materials, or ambient-temperature foodstuffs, the trucks used are semi-trailers or rigid trucks.

How did the TMS Dashdoc support Azurpal's growth?

The encounter

Franck Le Moigne had been thinking about developing the transport business for Azurpal for some time when he attended Solutrans in 2020. At the time, Dashdoc only offered eCMR (electronic consignment note) but was always evolving! Franck then decided to try a software that did not fully meet his needs: only freight management and tracking were available.

“In 2015, we naturally started with a whiteboard. In 2020, we moved to another tool, but it was too limited.”

Still in touch with Dashdoc, Franck encountered our TMS again at Solutrans 2022 and decided to join us to boost his transport business.

“Thanks to its efficiency and energy, Dashdoc is now at the heart of Azurpal’s operations.”

Dashdoc, the transport tool that fits

Adopting the TMS enabled Azurpal to energize its business and grow from 6 trucks rapidly to 11 engines today! Communication has really improved, which was necessary to connect the roles of shipper, carrier, and logistics provider.

📈

A snapshot of TMS serving Azurpal with a few figures:

In 2020, Azurpal generated about €65,000 in revenue from transport and had 1 truck.

In 2023, Azurpal generates €1,200,000 in revenue from transport and has 11 engines. In just three years, logistics has become a major force for the company, representing almost 15% of overall revenue.

What are the advantages of the Dashdoc TMS?

  • The ease of onboarding : the internal team—15 employees (administrative operations managers, accounting, as well as truck drivers)—adapted “very naturally” to the tool.

“Within fifteen days, it was routine, especially for the driver app. I’d say they’d even struggle to do without it now.”

  • The Dashdoc support team is omnipresent : you get answers to questions within just a few minutes on the website or app;

  • Communication revamped for the whole company : information shared with clients, with drivers, internally: access to information is completely different;“Dashdoc is a fantastic client loyalty tool.”

In terms of features, a

clear and easy-to-read transport schedule : it really makes a difference to start the day with a detailed overview of the transport organization.

The benefits since using Dashdoc

In terms of productivity: for entering Transport Orders, sending missions to drivers, incoming calls, and pre-invoicing, we estimate that Azurpal Transport saves the equivalent of half a full-time position!

To go even further…

The Dashdoc TMS is full of ideas to keep evolving! But our clients also bring their own suggestions. Franck, for example, is enthusiastic about the idea of a community aspect among Dashdoc clients: meetings, creating a club to share best practices and methods—he believes all clients could benefit.

“I'm convinced that the more companies use Dashdoc, the easier it will get for everyone.”
